I am pleased to write a review of the book entitled "Manual of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation in the ICU" edited by Dr Poonam Malhotra Kapoor. This text is written in simple English in an easily understandable format with colorful diagrams. The text is conveniently divided into sections namely, basics of ECMO, Hardware used in ECMO, procedure and management of ECMO, anticoagulation, pediatric ECMO, renal issues in ECMO, no cardiac issues in ECMO, and ECMO in ICU. Finally there is a section of multiple choice questions which will be quite useful for student population, those who are appearing for examinations and examination paper setters too! Each section is conveniently divided into chapters relevant to that section.

Dr (Mrs.) Malhotra Kapoor is a sound clinical anesthesiologist with extensive experience in cardiac anaesthesia: additionally she is a passionate teacher and prolific writer. This combination of teaching and writing makes a unique setting for a publication such as this! This text is probably one of the first one to be published in India on the subject matter of ECMO and fulfils the long standing need for a ready reference book on ECMO. The text includes protocols, guidelines and basic information on ECMO with contributions from both national and international authors. I am convinced that this compendium will be so immense value to health care professionals of many streams like cardiac surgery/anesthesia, clinical perfusion, intensive care, pediatric medicine, and pulmonology. Likewise, the book will benefit students cardiac surgery/anesthesia, intensive care, perfusion, pediatric medicine and pulmonologist.
